Points and championships

The two championships, how points are scored, and how a title is won.

There are two championships running side by side, like a player-of-the-season award and a league table for teams.

  • Drivers' Championship: individual drivers. The winner is the World Champion.
  • Constructors' Championship: the teams. A constructor is a team that builds its own car.

Follow both on the standings page.

Only the top 10 score. Since 2025 there is no extra point for the fastest lap.

Winning the title

Add up the points over the whole season and the most points wins. A driver can win the title before the last race if nobody else can catch them. If two drivers finish on the same points, the one with more wins takes it (then more second places, and so on).

Good to know

  • A sprint win counts as a sprint win. It is not a Grand Prix win.
  • Practice and qualifying don't score points.
